In Los Angeles, a husband and wife seeking justice for the husband’s exposure to asbestos while working in construction as a day laborer was awarded $5 million by a jury after a multi-week trial. In the trial of Brooks v. DAP Products Inc., et al., the plaintiffs claimed that Kevin Brooks had developed mesothelioma as a result of his exposure to asbestos in Kaiser Gypsum Company’s joint compound while working in the 1960s and 1970s. He alleged the asbestos fibers from those products were inhaled and damaged his lungs, eventually resulting in the development of cancerous cells.

The jury found that his exposure to Kaiser Gypsum Company’s defective products were substantial factors in the development of Mr. Brooks’ mesothelioma, and awarded him $2 million for his pain and suffering and awarded his wife $3 million for her loss of consortium.

Trial counsel was Scott L. Frost and Paul Cook of Frost Law Firm, PC, in San Pedro, California.
