Scott Frost shares his insights from our newsletter:
Everybody loves a sleeper pick.
Fantasy football draft season is almost here.
Which means millions of otherwise reasonable adults are suddenly spending their evenings researching backup running backs and arguing with strangers on the internet.
It’s a funny time of year.
Somewhere, someone is currently explaining to their spouse why drafting a rookie wide receiver in the seventh round is actually the responsible thing to do.
Everyone is looking for the player everybody else missed.
The late-round draft pick that’s somehow going to save an entire season.
And everyone is absolutely convinced they’ve found him.
(At least until week three.)
Sometimes the most important thing isn’t having all of the answers.
It’s knowing which questions to ask next.
A lot of the conversations I have with families begin the same way.
“I don’t really remember.”
“It happened a long time ago.”
“I don’t know if this matters.”
“I’m not even sure where to begin.”
Those four phrases have started more conversations than I can count.
Usually, they mean we’re just getting started.
Sometimes the missing pieces are hiding in places families don’t even think to look, including military records that can help tell the story decades later.
Sometimes it’s an employment history someone hadn’t thought about in decades.
Sometimes it’s a detail that didn’t seem important at the time.
The good news is that not knowing where to begin doesn’t mean there isn’t somewhere to start.
Here’s to hoping your sleeper pick exceeds expectations this year.
(And lasts longer than week three.)

P.S. If you’ve ever found yourself saying, “I don’t know if this matters,” or “I’m not even sure where to begin,” we’d be happy to talk with you. You don’t need all of the answers before asking the first question.
