Today Is Mesothelioma Awareness Day

National Mesothelioma Awareness Day

September 26th is the annual National Mesothelioma Awareness Day, which is dedicated to honoring patients and their families who have confronted the challenges of this rare and aggressive cancer. It is a day to let those who have struggled with this disease know they’re not forgotten, and the fight goes on.

As explained by the Mayo Clinic, mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer that develops in the lining of the lungs, abdomen, heart, or testes. While many cancers manifest without an apparent reason, it has long been established that the only cause of mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos. That was a natural mineral used across many industries for most of the 20th century, primarily as an installation material.

Unfortunately, workers who toiled in industries that used asbestos were exposed to toxins. In some cases, the fibers attached to clothing were brought home, putting their families at risk. The insidious nature of mesothelioma is that it is a slow-progressing cancer. By the time it is diagnosed, it is often in the late stages, which is news no family wants to hear.

How to Show Support

On National Mesothelioma Awareness Day, you can show support by wearing blue. You can also post on social media to educate others about the dangers of asbestos and what new advancements are being made towards treatment and a cure. You can also find out about and support asbestos laws to protect the health of future generations. If you know someone who has suffered from mesothelioma, you can reach out to check in and see how they’re doing.

Finding Relief

Today, asbestos has been restricted for use in America and other countries. Researchers continue to develop new treatments and targeted therapies. There is also relief for many families who have faced mounting medical expenses, lost wages, and, in extreme cases, a fatality. That relief comes in the form of compensation from the companies that exposed their workers to asbestos without proper protection or warnings.

Frost Law Firm, PC has been an advocate for mesothelioma patients and their families for many years now. Thinking about a lawsuit might not seem like a priority for families who are struggling with treatment and an uncertain future. However, it’s important to understand all of the options that exist for seeking compensation. There are even certain businesses that have set up funds for employees who have recently been diagnosed with the disease. Some of these businesses have even gone out of business, but their asbestos funds were part of the dissolution.

If you or someone you care about has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, we’re standing by to provide guidance and support. Let’s schedule a consultation.
